10 Reasons Why the #BlackLivesMatter Movement Is Very Necessary
This is not a moment, but a movement.
We are fighting to bring awareness to the 2.8 million Black people locked in the prison system in this country.
We are defending the Black women who take on the unbearable burden of a constant assault on our children and our families.
We are fighting for the voice and human rights of the 500,000 Black people in the United States who are undocumented immigrants.
We are working to alleviate the systematic and intentional targeting of Black folks living with disabilities and different abilities that are being forced to fit into the boxes of normality defined by white supremacy.
We are broadening the conversation around the Black LGBT community, who take on the pressures of a hetero-patriarchal society that often disposes of them and simultaneously fetishizes them and makes money off of them.
We are starting the conversation around Black poverty and genocide.
We are calling on Black people to love Black, live Black and buy Black.
We are working to rebuild the Black liberation movement, with a focus on those who have been marginalized within the movement. We seek affirmation for our societal contributions, our humanity and our resilience in the face of oppression.
We are calling people to action and to respond to the bitterly hostile anti-Black racism that pervades our society.
We want to bring awareness to the de-humanization of our Black people.
