Downton Abbey's Crawley clan could have looked a little different. The X-Files and The Fall star Gillian Anderson was offered a part in the hit ITV period drama back in 2010, but she turned it down. Apparently Anderson was contacted to play American Cora Crawley, a role eventually filled by Elizabeth McGovern.

After filming on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the cast's Hogwarts robes had their roomy pockets sewn shut because Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) kept trying to sneak food onto the set. Naughty, naughty.

Colin Firth initially turned down the role of Mr Darcy in the BBC's 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice. In fact, his family and friends "pleaded" with him not to take it. "People said 'no you can’t because he’s supposed to be sexy and dark'," admitted Firth recently. Good job he didn't listen, eh?
